The Author Mindset
It took me 18 years to publish my first book. Becoming an author took time. It wasn’t something that happened overnight. I always knew I wanted to write and become a published author ever since I was 9 years old. I started writing my first book but I didn’t have the resources and the tools available to be able to make this dream a reality. I felt stuck because for 18 years I would perfect my book and then put it to the side over and over again. I allowed fear to stop me. I was afraid of what people would think and allowed the excuse of not knowing what I was doing to stop me from accomplishing this dream.
I know you must feel the same way if you have somehow landed on my blog. It’s cool we can relate to each other. But I want to let you know that there has to come an end to this fear and procrastination. When will enough be enough?
Today I am going to share with you what I have done over the years to create a strong author mindset and get past the self-limiting beliefs that held me back for so long.
Open your mind and view your business as energy.
Stick with me on this…
1. Like energy attracts like energy. Understand that the writing of our books, the physical books and the exchange of money for our books may be something tangible that we can hold in our hand, but it ultimately is energy. How you view yourself as an author and your author business is how it will be. We as a collective have to understand what our beliefs are around our stories and our books. You have full control over your thoughts so make sure that you are putting out and receiving the right energy when it comes to your author business. If you want to live an abundant life and you know you have big plans with your book, then it all starts with your mind.
2. Stop the constant hustle mode. There are two types of authors. One that will write and publish their book and then sit and wait and wonder why they are not making any money and they are not seeing any speaking engagements come through. Then there are those who are like me, in which we hustle every single day consistently and make things happen. However, I want to help you avoid the mistakes that I made because constant hustle mode and forcing hustle mode isn’t good either. Learn to flow and trust that everything will work out the way that it is supposed to. I challenge you to change how you speak about your book, your business and sales. Pay attention to your thoughts. What has helped me is keeping a journal and writing down what I am thinking and how I am feeling. This allows me to make changes were needed. You must align yourself with what you are truly thinking and where you ultimately want to be. In order to change the mindset what helped me is to see everything as an investment. I know during a pandemic some people are unemployed or maybe on reduced hours and you are thinking, how am I supposed to publish this book if funds are already low? I understand but we must change the mindset to thinking that this is not an expense but an investment and instead of thinking that we are lacking we should start thinking that we are in abundance. Arrive mentally before you get there physically.
3. Gratitude heals the world. Learning to be grateful for even the smallest of things help us change a negative to a positive. When you feel better you attract better. When you see the good in everything you start to surround yourself with people who think the same way. We start to attract situations and opportunities that will help us advance in our author business. I challenge you to purchase a simple journal and every morning write down 3 things you are grateful for. This will help you shift the mindset.
These are just some tips that have helped me throughout my journey as an author. Whenever I have been in a low vibrational state, I have repelled opportunities, sales, people, etc. But when I am vibrating in a high place, I have attracted so many wonderful new opportunities.
I hope this was helpful and allows you to see the writing process from a different perspective. It is hard but certainly doable.
